Pacific Chorale Young Composers Competition

Pacific Chorale invites America’s young composers to participate in a contest designed to encourage the proliferation of America’s choral music. The Chorale is seeking new a cappella works for mixed choral ensembles, 3-5 minutes in length.

We invite choral composers under the age of 35 to apply. All interested applicants must submit a sample of their choral writing by Friday, September 14, 2007. Only choral works will be considered. You are encouraged to explore our web site to learn more about Pacific Chorale’s performance ensembles and their artistic breadth.

Finalists will be selected and notified by Friday, October 12, 2007. Finalists will be asked to write an original work utilizing text of American poetry or an original work based upon a lesser-known American folk song (composers are responsible for securing rights to their text.) All finalist submissions will be due on Friday, January 4, 2008. Finalist submissions must be camera ready and contain a piano reduction. Up to two winners may be selected.
