Other Minds Composer Fellowship

The Other Minds Composer Fellowship presents composers with the opportunity for a unique residency in conjunction with the 16th Other Minds Festival of New Music, dubbed by the LA Times "the premier new music festival west of the Rockies."

Works by OM Fellows will be performed by the resident Other Minds Ensemble, in a concert in San Francisco on Wednesday, March 2, 2011. In addition, Fellows will participate in a series of residency events from Sunday, February 27 through Saturday, March 5, 2011, including lecture-presentations, panel discussions, workshops, and seminars.

To apply, please submit to Other Minds the following:

  1. A résumé, curriculum vitae, or description of your education, experience, and creative activity.
  2. A proposal for a work to be performed:

Applicants may submit an existing work or propose to write a new piece. Instrumentation must be flute, Bb clarinet or bass clarinet, violin, cello or a subset thereof; an applicant may also perform in his/her own work (piano not available) or make use of electronics. We regret that works with duration greater than 20 minutes cannot be considered.

    • For a completed work, submit score, recording, and/or any other appropriate documentation, and list of past performances of the work.
    • To propose a new work, submit instrumentation, approximate duration, and a preliminary description. In addition submit one to three recent or related works (scores, recordings, and/or any other documentation).

For online applications, please send scores as .pdf and recordings as .mp3 (please use a fileshare service if files exceed 15MB) or direct links to downloadable files.

  3. A brief statement (500 words or less) about why you want participate, what you hope to gain, and/or how the OM Composer Fellowship fits into your other creative activities.

All materials must be received by October 15, 2010.
