ContemporarY Ensemble (CYE) Call for Scores

ContemporarY Ensemble (CYE) challenges you to write for an exciting ensemble!

CYE is an open ensemble focusing on contemporary music and has the ambition to develop new ensemble forms through unusual combinations of instruments.

Composers are invited to write new works for three odd quartets, as well as open pieces for an unspecified ensemble. To our premiere concert in November 2010 we are looking for new pieces of music!

The composer has four options and it is free to choose which group he/she wants to write for. All four instruments in the selected group (Option I-III) should be represented.

Option I:

  • Trombone
  • Vocal – soprano
  • Accordion
  • Cello

Option II:

  • Tenor saxophone
  • Recorder
  • Viola
  • 5-string banjo/guitar

Details: the banjo player also plays guitar. It is possible to choose one of these instruments, or combine both in the same part. All sizes of recorders are available.

Option III:

  • Harp
  • Jazz vocal – alto
  • Clarinet
  • Percussion - vibraphone, 4 wood-blocks, 1 cymbal, bass drum (kick), 3 tom-toms

Details: Choose appropriate setup consisting of a selection or all of the above percussion instruments.

Option IV:

Open ensemble form. Piece for an unspecified ensemble, i. e. a score that could be played by any ensemble or almost any ensemble.

Composition Details:

  • Duration: ca 5-10 min/piece.
  • Up to three contributions per person.
  • Open to all composers, regardless of age and nationality.
  • The works may not be previously published and shall be created after 2000.
  • Additional electronics are possible. If this is not governed by the composer, it should be easy to operate.
  • A live recording of the concert will be available for the participating composers.

Deadline: August 24, 2010

Concert: November 14, 2010 Palladium, Malmö, Sweden
